I still have an original Yankee from September 1981 with article by Jane and Micheal Stern.. I have visited all the places in their article and the ones in yours too. But my favorite is still the Kreme N Kone in Dennisport MA.
For those who can’t make it to the shore, Ronnie’s Seafood in Charlton is a great spot.

Cheers

Comment on Remembering Russ Morash: The Man Who Revolutionized How-To TV by leoracicot https://newengland.com/travel/new-england/0325-master-of-the-house-russ-morash/#comment-445713 Tue, 29 Apr 2025 21:56:06 +0000 https://newengland.com/?p=2171093#comment-445713 Hello, Bruce Irving,
I must make a bit of a protest re this piece, though only the tiniest protest, as this is a splendid profile, splendid photos, and tribute to your dear friend. However — those of my generation –Baby Boomers — knew Russell Morash in connection with “The French Chef” and Julia Child, In fact, whenever I hear his name, my mind goes immediately to Julia (who was a good friend and neighbor for many years. So, when I saw your article, I said instantly to myself, “Oh, something about Morash but also about Julia!” You do mention her briefly. Maybe I’ve been horribly out-of-touch but I had no idea Morash was connected to “This Old House”. This has left me feeling quite stupid. I do understand that the thrust of your friendship with Mr. Morash was in conjunction with “This Old House” so….This remains a loving, deeply felt tribute to your friend and in that regard, it’s invaluable. May I send my condolences on your loss. I am sorry he has journeyed on. Julia just adored the man. And now I have a new writer I can follow in “Yankee” and on newengland.com Yours sincerely, Leo. P.S. While I have you on the line, may I ask if Jean Burden is still on the “Yankee” editorial staff? She was so lovely, so professional to work with back ‘in the day”….

I’ve never seen a tested recipe for canning Harvard Beets. I would freeze them.

I ate afew lobster rolls while living there buying
them in gas stations and lunch counters.
I rememder them as being hot (warm) on a toasted hamburger bun with a warm creamy mayo based sauce. They were made with mostly leg and small chunks of meat. As I remember they
cost $0.35 ea. but a hotdog was a $0.05 and a burger was $0.10 I have been back but could not
find those type anyplace. My memory is that the hot ones were better than the cold ones

My husband and I were married below the staircase on August 4th 1979. There was such positive energy at the sight, it followed us and we will celebrate 46 years together this summer.

There is a book called “Happy Thoughts” Cooking Ranges For People Who Are Particular” – Subtitle “Made by The William Buck Stove Company, Limited”. It is for sale on eBay. Also, there is an article on the internet “The Legacy of William Buck Stove Company” (canadianindustrialheritage.com/resources/articles/legacy-william-buck-stove-company)

Previously, had a Home Oakland. They both came with gas side arms, which is great for summer since this is our only stove. Heats the whole house in winter. Have loved this way of heating and cooking for 46 years. Wish I could share a photo because it’s gorgeous—green enamel.
